Profile
Cannon-Brookes Lighting & Design (CBL) is a UK based practice providing a world class consultancy service in the area of architectural lighting. It specialises primarily in designing high quality lighting systems in museums, historic buildings and art collections throughout the world. CBL delivers a service that includes design, project management and co-ordination of instalment of lighting in internal spaces and for specific objects.

Experience and methods
Drawing on a core of experience and research, CBL has adopted a holistic approach, balancing conservation considerations with the need for coherence in lighting interiors and objects. CBL works closely with specialist manufacturers to ensure the fittings are tailored to meet specific requirements, particularly when lighting single objects such as paintings.

Conservation issues
CBL adopts a highly sensitive approach to the lighting design within the context of historic buildings. As the target is normally an intangible improvement in visual appearance, solutions involve careful integration into existing building fabric and an understanding of context rather than simplistic delivery of equipment.

Research & Development
CBL ensures that it is up-to-date with the latest achievements of lighting technology. Dr. Cannon-Brookes maintains strong links with the world of lighting research and development and continues to contribute in this area by publishing articles in the worlds leading magazines, such as Lighting Research and Technology. He is an active member of CIBSE and ICOM, besides being a Lecturer on the Light and Lighting Masters Course at University College London.

Clients
CBLs clients vary extensively from small private collectors to large public institutions. These range from The Frick Collection, NYC; The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston; The Center for British Art, Yale; Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; Hardwick Hall, NT; Sandon Hall, Staffordshire; to London Livery companies and clubs. Current projects also include private collections, churches and other historic structures in the UK, Germany and the US.
